You know, one of my favorite songs by the Beatles is Come Together, which also happens to be my theme for this very brief article. In this up and down season for Chelsea, we haven’t seemed to “Come Together” as a team on the pitch much. And there aren’t a lot of things we have done spectacularly, but I DID find something, a very specific way that we came together and that we lead the Europe in (at least the main five leagues). YES, SERIOUSLY. Wanna know what it is? Do ya?
Chelsea Football Club currently lead all of Europe’s Big Five clubs in Assist to Goal ratio. AND IT’S CLOSE. Strasbourg is trying desperately to steal this from us, but NOPE, it’s all ours. Right now our A/G is 81.8% (Strasbourg is at 81.6%). Yes, that’s right, more than 8 in 10 goals for us in league play has been assisted. Hey, maybe there’s something to this Sarrismo after all, eh?
I put together a little chart, showing A/G on one axis, and A/Match on the other, filtered out for only clubs with 50+ goals, because it got too busy otherwise. But I desperately wanted to see Chelsea at the top, and yes, I set the axes so that was the case.
YAAAAY! GO CHELSEA! KTBFFH!
